A 17-month-old child Hamza allegedly died of anti-polio vaccine in the border village Narang Mandi of Sheikhupura district, reported a private TV channel on Tuesday.
According to the report, 17-month-old Hamza was the only son of Ghulam Murtaza, a laborer. District Health Officer Dr. Asif Iqbal and DDO Health Muridke Dr Fahad Mehmood compiled report of the incident and sent to the CEO District Health Authority.
The official sources said that anti-polio vaccination team went to vaccinate the children of Narang Mandi during the anti-polio campaign, where Hamza was also administered polio drops. After a while his condition became critical, on which his parents immediately went to the anti-polio team in the neighborhood.
The team informed district officers, firstly and shifted the child to Civil Hospital Narang Mandi and then to DHQ Hospital Sheikhupura. Where he was given first aid including steroid injection. However his condition didn’t improve and he was shifted to Mayo Hospital Lahore where he breathed his last.
The rest of the children from the area were given the same vaccine given to Hamza, but by the grace of Allah they are healthy. This is the first time a child has died of reaction from polio vaccine during the anti-polio campaign in District Sheikupura.
