In a major development, 13 special prosecutors in Punjab have been replaced for cases related to the May 9 incidents. This major reshuffle affects the prosecution of cases including the attack on Askari Tower and other incidents from the day when former premier and PTI founder Imran Khan was arrested from the Islamabad High Court. The Ministry of Interior has issued a notification appointing new special prosecutors to handle these high-profile cases.

The newly appointed special prosecutors are Advocate Chaudhry Armaghan Ahmed Pasha, Asif Javed Qureshi, Rao Abdul Jabbar, Advocate Arif Awan, Ilyas Habib, Malik Sarood, Rana Ashfaq, Rana Manzoor, Advocate Rana Naveed Ashiq, Rana Noman, Shahid Mehmood Minhas, and Shahid Shaukat.

These prosecutors will now represent the state in court for the May 9 cases, ensuring legal proceedings are conducted efficiently and effectively.
Previously, the Lahore High Court on June 13 dismissed several applications filed by the Punjab government, seeking transfer of certain May 9 cases from ATC-1 Rawalpindi to another court, with a fine.
