Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Federal Minister Zubaida Jalal on Saturday recorded her statement in National Crime Agency £190 million scandal (Al-Qadir Trust Case).
The former minister said in her statement that she appeared before the National Accountability Bureau investigation officer in May 2023.
According to Zubaida Jalal statement, she was present in a cabinet meeting in 2019 where a sealed envelope was presented by Shehzad Akbar, containing information about £1a90 million.
She stated that the matter was not discussed in the meeting and the cabinet members were also not briefed about it.
Zubaida Jalal also revealed that Shehzad Akbar had mentioned that the amount was transferred illegally to the UK and that the National Crime Agency had asked the government of Pakistan that the amount will be returned to Pakistan. Jalal said that the cabinet member were told that the matter was highly confidential and, however, cabinet members had objected that they were not briefed on the issue.
Zubaida Jalal’s statement was recorded amidst objections from the PTI lawyers, who argued that the prosecution was trying to influence her testimony.
The Deputy Prosecutor General, Muzaffar Abbasi, responded that he was only guiding the witness and that it was her right to provide information.
It is pertinent to mention here that former Federal Minister Zubaida Jalal made startling revelations before NAB in NCA £190 million scandal.
The former minister told NAB that the then cabinet member had suggested an investigation of £190 million and ask the NCA to release the amount to Pakistan.
Zubaida Jalal told NAB in her statement that she urged the cabinet for investigation into this matter but former prime minister Imran Khan didn’t listen to her.
