Yasmin chairs PHOTA meeting, approves raise in salaries

The 20th meeting of the monitoring authority of the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority was held in the Department of Specialized Health Care and Medical Education under the chairmanship of Provincial Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid.

Secretary Health Dr Ahmad Javaid Qazi, DG PHOTA Prof. Dr. Shehzad Anwar,, Prof. Ghayas ul din Nabi Tayyab, representative of Finance Department and Dean Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplantation Institute, Prof. Dr. Faisal Saud Dar, Mian Zahid ul Rahman Baata and PHOTA officers attended the meeting. Director General Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Prof. Dr Shehzad Noor gave a briefing to Provincial Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid.

Provincial Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid approved the minutes of the 19th meeting of the Monitoring Authority during the meeting. During the meeting, a 15% increase in the salaries of the employees of the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority was approved and it was also approved to establish a department of inspection for the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority.

Provincial Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said that Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority has approved a total of 1873 cases from July 2021 to December 2022. Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority has also approved 1110 kidney transplants, 401 liver transplants, 799 cornea transplants and 101 bone marrow transplants from July 2021 to December 2022. The Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority has so far registered 68 hospitals for transplantation.

The courts have pronounced 50 cases against the elements involved in the illegal and disgusting business of transplantation. Another 10 cases are pending in the courts.
