Why are burn center facilities not available inSindh province saving Karachi, asked Pasban Democratic Party (PDP)Chairman Altaf Shakoor here Sunday. He said burn patients from all over the province are rushed to Karachidespite the fact that about half a dozen teaching hospitals are workingin the province outside Karachi. He said after the recent gas cylinder blast incident in Hyderabad dozensof burn patients were rushed to Karachi, despite the fact that twomedical university hospitals are present in Hyderabad and Jamshoro.

He asked are the teaching hospitals in Sindh outside Karachi sosubstandard that they can’t treat even burn patients. He said Hyderabadis the second largest city of Sindh province and still it didn’t have aproper burn treatment centre.Altaf Shakoor said that in fact healthcare facilities in whole Sindh arein shambles.

The burns centre in Karachi is in working condition onlybecause NGOs support it. Had it been run by the government sector itscondition would not have been different from the other government runhospitals in Sindh. He said every year billions of rupees are allocated in the budget forthe healthcare sector in Sindh but most of it goes into the pockets ofthe notorious corruption mafia of the province. He said if these fundsare used properly the healthcare sector in Sindh could be improved alot.

Altaf Shakoor demanded that burn center facilities should be provided inwhole Sindh on priority basis, besides overhauling whole governmentsector healthcare facilities in Sindh province. He said a properhealthcare audit system should be introduced in all government hospitalsin Sindh to improve their healthcare delivery.
