WHO Regional Director Dr. Balkhy calls on Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz

LAHORE – World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Dr. Hanan Balkhy met Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore today.

Dr. Balkhy congratulated Maryam Nawaz on becoming the first female Chief Minister of Punjab. The CM also congratulated Dr. Balkhy on assuming the role of WHO Regional Director.

CM Maryam also appreciated Dr. Balkhy’ services in the health sector and particularly in infection control among the public.

The Punjab chief minister said that they would ensure complete cooperation and assistance to WHO for disease prevention and treatment.

“Health is our top priority, with 32 field hospitals already operational for rural communities, and the goal is to establish state-of-the-art hospitals in every district within five years,” said the CM.

Dr. Hanan Balkhy emphasized the necessity of timely measures to protect populations from infectious diseases in remote areas. WHO, she said, woluld collaborate to provide timely health facilities during emergencies caused by the natural disasters.
