Government performance

When Prime Minister Imran khan took over reins of the country, he was adamant to improve governance yet during last few months, prices of every product has shot up drastically.

It is unbearable to afford basic commodities as prices of each and everything has risen and it has become very difficult for poor and middle-class to survive and feed their families.

It is understood that inflation has become universal yet it is unbearable in Pakistan for a poor man whose daily wage is very low.

The price of petrol has risen twice in just a month and electricity bills are tearing us apart. Despite several efforts and assurances, government has miserably failed to control prices.

The inflation rate has almost been tripled as compare to 2018. The main causes of inflation are increase in dollar’s value, high prices of raw materials, high taxes and incompetence of government for not controlling massive corruption.

As a result, poor become poorer day by day. PTI government has changed a lot of ministers so far but that doesn’t absolve them from responsibility.

The government must act immediately and check on black marketing, hoarding and profiteering. It should strictly deal with those who are found guilty.

It is high time government must own its responsibility and keep a stern check on rising inflation, unemployment, incidents of crimes particularly rapes and murder. The government must review its performance.

Civic sense

Civic sense symbolizes social morals. Examples include keeping roads, streets and public places clean.

It reflects the actual attitude and shows the accountability of any person. It involves unspoken norms of society that help it run smoothly without someone tripping on somebody else’s toes.

It is a common sight to watch people in the city throwing waste as and where they like, spit without any concern for others.

At several spots, people answer nature’s call openly, wherever they find an empty space or a boundary wall. They are least bothered about keeping the surroundings clean.

All of these not only cause inconvenience to others but also result in overwhelming health hazards.

Ailments like malaria, diarrhoea and numerous viral infections today are spreading owing to polluted surroundings.

Most people believe just in personal hygiene. They believe that they have all the right to throw anything on the street, as long as it does not affect them.

In other ways, their behaviour is why bother if my trash thrown on the streets spoils the shirt of the other person, but does not spoil mine.

It is the fundamental responsibility of every one of us to defend and develop the environment. So, what is our role as a citizen? Speaking up and finding the right approach to address grievances,we must change our behaviour to clean the environment surrounding us.

Shutting down oil refineries?

There has been a disturbing trend over the years of authorities banning anything that they do not understand or have difficulty solving

. Last month a proposal was submitted to shutdown three prominent refineries stems from this mindset.

The question arises that how this particular minister who submitted said proposal came to this conclusion that shutting down Pakistan’s prominent oil refineries was the solution to industry’s woes?
Refineries play a major role in our energy needs.

They save Pakistan billions in foreign exchange annually, give jobs to tens of thousands, contributing heavily to the national exchequer in duties and taxes while strengthening Pakistan’s energy security.

Pakistan saves billions of rupees every year by importing cheaper crude oil and refining it at home, instead of importing expensive refined products like petrol and diesel.

Pakistan’s energy industry and oil refining sector are the backbone of country’s economy and deserve better treatment and adequate protection.

Shameful incidents!

This week another horrible and heartwrenching attack made by angery mob in the country that tortured, killed and then set on fire a Sri Lankan man who was accused of blasphemy over some posters he had allegedly taken down.

The victim is named as Priyantha Diyawadana, who had been working as Manager of a factory of the industrial engineering company Rajco Industries in Sialkot, Punjab, was set upon by a violent crowd.

In that horrific incident a video shared across social media, Diyawadana can be seen being thrown on to the floor, where hundreds began tearing his clothes, violently beating him.

He was tortured to death and then his body was burned. Dozens in the crowd can also be seen taking selfies with his dead body.

The incident started when some of the rumours emerged that Diyawadana, Manager of the factory for seven years, had taken down a poster bearing words from the Qur’an.

By the morning, a crowd began to gather at the factory gates and they went into the factory and seized Diyawadana.

Pakistan is an Islamic state, which has laws against blasphemy, The laws are often used against religious minorities and those accused are sometimes lynched before they are proven guilty in a court. This is not the first time that such a shameful incident has taken place.

The government should reform the system to get rid of such heinous and inhumane act in the future for all those who take charge of rule and law in their hands.

The government should also punish all those culprits involved in the incident according to rule and law of Pakistan.
