United Arab Emirate-based US officials met with Afghan evacuees in the country’s camps and dis-cussed with them potential relocation to the United States.
The meeting for potential resettlement comes after the Afghans staged a protest over their uncertain destiny in the camps last week.
UEA is one of the countries in the Gulf that settled thousands of Afghan evacuees who were taken out of Afghanistan to be resettled in the US or Europe.
US embassy in UEA in a statement said that they were aware of the peaceful demonstration in camp and have talks with a number of Afghans about their process to get into the US.
“We continue to conduct the screening and vetting of vulnerable Afghans prior to their arrival in the United States, consistent with the dual goals of pro-tecting national security and providing protection for vulnerable Afghans.” Reads the statement of the US embassy.
The protest by Afghan evacuees in the UAE camp comes as hundreds of SIV applicants still live in Afghanistan and are awaiting flights out of the country.—Agencies
