Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and her Republican rival, Donald Trump, are in the tight race as projection results for US Presidential Election 2024 started rolling as polling closed in all states except west coast.
Trump takes a strong lead with projected wins in several states, securing 230 Electoral votes. Kamala Harris trails with 205 electoral votes with tight race continues in key battlegrounds, according to media reports.
All eyes are on the key swing state of Georgia, where officials are counting votes. More than four million residents have cast their votes in early ballots in the state.
US election results are declared state-by-state and so far the two candidates have bagged various states,
which have historically supported either Democratic or Republican.
US media reports said Kansas and Iowa has picked the Republican Party, giving Trump a total of 12 Electoral votes.
Utah and Montana has voted for the Republican Party, as Donald Trump bagged 10 Electoral votes. Missouri also went for the Republican Party, giving Trump 10 Electoral votes.
The District of Columbia or Washington DC went for the Democratic Party, giving Harris three Electoral votes. She also won Colorado securing 10 Electoral votes.
To win the presidential election, the candidates needs to secure minimum 270 electoral votes.
There has been a knife-edge race for weeks with some pre-election polls giving Harris an edge over Trump in some of the key significant states like Pennsylvania.
However, the final outcome of the elections remained uncertain with critical battleground states unlikely to be called for hours or even days.
The AP has called North Carolina for Trump, serving blow to Democrats who were hopeful of winning the support of the state.
Reports said Harris has won Oregon, securing eight Electoral votes.
Swing States to Watch in US Election Results 2024
The seven swing states, which have historically been unpredictable, are yet to be declared with reports suggesting that turnout has been high in early voting in this election.
The swing states to watch include Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona and Nevada where vote count is underway.
Note: In such knife-edge race, early vote results may not be the best indication of who will win in the end.
