In yet another incident of anti-Muslim hatred, the principal of a private school in Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad district was booked for allegedly telling students to dress up in ‘Eid attire’ and post 20-second videos saying ‘Happy Eid’ as part of a school activity.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Dr Bushra Mustafa, principal of the Nyaya Nagar Public School in Jhunsi’s Havelia area, was booked on the basis of a complaint filed by one Lalmani Tiwari, the zonal in-charge of the rightwing Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) Gau Rakhsa Vibhag on Wednesday.

Tiwari, in his complaint, claimed that the principal’s message caused anger among those who belonged to different religions. Further, the complaint called Dr Bushra’s actions a part of a “conspiracy” meant to hurt religious sentiments. It even compared the instructions for the Eid videos to the hijab row in Karnataka, saying that the latter was done to “ruin communal harmony”.

The school administration, meanwhile, has defended the principal and said that such activities are organised on other Hindu festivals like Diwali, Dussehra, and India’s Independence Day and Republic Day as well.—INP
