Two local holidays announced on eve of China’s Deputy PM visit

A high-level delegation from China has arrived in Pakistan on a two-day official visit to participate in the celebrations marking the ‘Decade of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) celebrations.’

The event will culminate with China’s Deputy Prime Minister He Lifeng meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and expressing reassurance to Pakistan to successfully complete this landmark project of the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI). Two local holidays (July 31 and August 1) have been declared in schools, colleges, universities and banks etc while security has been put on high alert on the eve of the Chinese-Vice Premier’s visit. Various training programmes, exams and admission lists scheduled for HSS Part-I have been postponed and re-scheduled by the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), said a notification.

According to a senior official of the Ministry of the Planning Development and Special Initiative, the Pakistan government is giving a red carpet welcome to the visiting Chinese dignitary and considers his visit of supreme importance in the backdrop of the ten years of the first signing of the MoU between Chinese President Xi Jingping and the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The government has received an overwhelming response to the 10 year celebrations of (CPEC) across the country particularly after the two-day international conference held in the capital last week which brought together the esteemed participants with diverse expertise to delve into the socio-economic impact of the CPEC.

The two-day International conference, Decade of CPEC and Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), theme “From Vision to Reality, organized by the Ministry of Planning Development & Special Initiatives in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of China, concluded on July 25 amid to continue to implement the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for the country’s prosperity. The key objective of the conference was to bring together policymakers, scholars, practitioners, and other stakeholders to exchange ideas and insights related to economic, social, environmental and geopolitical impacts of CPEC and BRI.
