An army officer and a soldier were killed in a mine blast that took place on the Line of Control (LoC) in Kalal area of Nowshera in Rajouri district on Saturday.
Both these soldiers were deployed on a forward location in the Kalal area of Nowshera sector.
Official sources said that an army team was on routine duty at a forward location on the LoC in Kalal when a powerful explosion rocked the area. The explosion was heard several kilometers away.
“Three army soldiers, who included one army officer of the rank of Lieutenant, one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and a Sepoy were injured,” said official sources adding that all three were shifted to army medical facility where two of the personnel succumbed.
The deceased army personnel were identified as Lieutenant Rishi Kumar and Sepoy Manjit Singh. A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was under treatment.—GK
