The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that the outgoing Turkish ambassador in Kabul, Cihad Erginay, in a farewell meeting with the acting Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, said that Istanbul will host a conference on Afghanistan in the near future.
The MoI said in a statement that Erginay assured Haqqani he would urge donor countries to increase their assistance to Afghanistan.
The statement also quoted the Turkish ambassador as saying that he will try to boost engagement between Afghanistan and the international community.
“The Turkish ambassador noted that the aid countries in the near future will hold a meeting on Afghanistan in Turkey and he pledged to attempt to persuade the countries to increase their humanitarian and development assistance,” said Abdul Matin Qani, a spokesman for the MoI.
Meanwhile, some political analysts said that Turkey can play an important role in improving relations between Afghanistan and the international community. “Turkey could be a bridge between the Taliban and the international community and could establish diplomatic relations between the Islamic Emirate and the world,” said Wahid Faqiri, an international relations analyst.—Tolonews
