Car prices in Pakistan are all-time high, as the government made changes in withholding taxes, and it further raised cost of owning a vehicle, especially for those who are not in tax radar.
The revised policy shifts calculation of Withholding Tax (WHT) from engine size to the car’s net price, affecting non-filers, who will now have to pay up to 9percent WHT on models like Toyota Yaris and Corolla. Filers will still pay a lower rate, but the move is expected to add pressure to already burdened car buyers.
After last year changes, Withholding Tax (WHT) will now be calculated based on the car’s invoice price instead of engine capacity. As part of this change, non-filers will face significantly higher taxes, with WHT reaching up to 9 percent on models like Toyota Yaris and Corolla.
