Over three million saplings would be planted in the Attock district under spring plantation drive 2022.

This was disclosed by district forest officer Amir Abbass while briefing media about the plantation drive at Attock on Tuesday. He said, under the campaign, saplings were being planted in government forests, on the land of several government departments, the Defence Department and private lands in the region.

He added that under the drive, one million saplings would be planted on the both sides of Ghazi Brotha water channel, 0.9 million on different private land, 0.2 million of various defense installations while over 0.1 million saplings would be planted around the provincial government buildings including schools, colleges and hospitals.

He pointed out that the spring tree plantation campaign 2022 had been kicked off the district and all-out efforts would be made to make the campaign a success. He said greenery and forestation were indispensable to control environmental pollution, leading towards global warming.

“We should plant as many trees as possible because life would be impossible without them,” he said, adding that many species of animals depend on trees for habitat as they provide shelter, food and protection to them.

He said the forest department was playing a dynamic role towards making Pakistan clean and green.

The tehsil forest officers and other concerned had been directed to plant maximum saplings with the help and cooperation of the civil society, officials and students during the campaign, he said.

“Minimum forest cover on 25pc area is necessary to keep the natural environment clean,” Mr Abbass said.

He said that as olive is a drought-tolerant staple plant, he added, efforts would taken to increase olive farming area in the barani areas of the district especially Jand, Bassal and Pindigheab.
