QUETTA –   At least five peopled injured in a blast that took place in a pile of garbage in front of a hospital on Double Road in Quetta, the police said on Wednesday.

Both rescue teams and the police officials swiftly arrived at the scene soon as they came to know about the unfortunate incident.

The police, in response, secured the area and initiated a comprehensive search operation to assess the situation.

The rescue sources said  that among the injured are three children, a police officer, and a passerby.

These individuals are currently being transferred to the hospital to receive necessary medical assistance.

According to SSP Operations Jawad Tariq Kakar, the explosive material was deliberately placed within the garbage. The explosion occurred when children, who were scavenging through the rubbish, unintentionally triggered the explosive device.

Kakar clarified that the incident was not a result of a security lapse; rather, the garbage had been accumulating at the site for several days.

Kakar further stated that there is an existing security alert due to upcoming elections, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance in the area.
