The local officials of Baharak district in Takhar province said that about 3,000 families in the district lack safe drinking water.
These officials asked the current government to deal with the challenge.
“There is a pool, and our people store the water in reservoirs and use it for drinking, ablution, and washing clothes,” said Abdul Majeed, an official in Baharak district.
Residents of Bharak district also said that many family members get various diseases every year due to the use of unsanitary water.
“We store water here and use it for fifteen days, twenty days, or a month. Sometimes it happens that even the color of the water changes,” said Mohammad Nayeem, a resident of Bharak district.
“If there is no water, we will travel for about half an hour. That water is also not clean and is harmful to health,” said Ibrahim, a resident of Baharak district.
“Children fall into the pool when they go outside and play or take water. Two of my children were martyred here and now I don’t leave my children and carry water myself,” said Nazar Mohammad, a resident of Baharak district.
Previously, residents of parts of the center of Takhar complained about the lack of safe drinking water and asked the local authorities to address the problem.
