South Africa beat Bangladesh by 149 runs in World Cup 2023 match

Mumbai – South Africa beat Bangladesh by 149 runs in the 23rd match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday evening.

Chasing a mammoth 383 runs target for victory, Bangladesh kept on losing wickets after 30 runs opening stand and the entire team was out for 233 runs in 46.4 overs.

Except Mahmudullah who played a valiant 111 runs innings, no Bangladesh batter could make any significant contribution.

Litton Das made 22 runs, Nasum Ahmed 19, Hasan Mahmud 15, Tanzid Hasan 12 and Mehdy Hasan Mirza and Mushfiqur Rahim 11 runs each.

Gerald Coetzee bagged three wickets and Marco Jansen, Lizaad Williams and Kagiso Rabata two each while Keshav Maharaj took one wicket.

Quinton de Kock was named player of the match.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Proteas reached 382/5 in the allotted 50 overs despite losing two wickets in the first power play.

Quinton de Kock continued to shine at the top order as he scored third hundred in the tournament. He was the top scorer with 174 runs in 140 balls.

Skipper Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klassen scored half-centuries to help the side make another 380-plus first-inning total in the tournament.

Heinrich Klassen made 90, Aiden Markram 60 and David Miller 34 runs.

Hasan Mahmud bagged two wickets while Mehdy Hasan Mirza, Shakib Al Hasan and Shoriful Islam took one wicket each.
