In many areas of Helmand, solar power is being used and farmers are using them for power to irrigate agricultural land and to mill wheat into flour.
Some farmers said the lack of water and high prices of fuel have made them use solar power, and their agricultural products’ expenses have decreased.
“One liter of fuel is 310 rupees and when we use 20 liters from morning until night that is too much for us and because of this the solar device is so useful,” said Raz Mohammad, a farmer.
“We installed a solar power mill to have an income and to serve our country. People can easily change wheat to flour,” said Noor Ahmad, in charge of the flour mill.
Decreasing exports of wheat from the Ukraine and Russia to the world, have increase the price of wheat in Afghanistan.
