Snow, rain bring more cold; tourists confined to rooms

Intermittent rain and snowfall at Murree hill station on Tuesday made the weather cold amid severe conditions, as tourists were also confined to hotel rooms at the hill stations. The Pakistan Meteorological Department said a westerly storm was affecting the western and upper parts of the county, while cloudy weather prevailed in most parts of the country. However, the Meteorological Department said that rain (snowfall in the mountains) was also recorded in Islamabad, Punjab, Upper Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and some parts of Kashmir.
Dr. Khalid Mehmood Malik, Director, National Agomate Center, Islamabad, said that the rains would reduce dangerous smog in the country, which would also increase visibility. He added, “A good area of ??rain in mid-December will affect the country again.” Rains are also continuing in the suburbs of Abbottabad city as it has been snowing in Abbottabad Galyat city for the last 36 hours. Snowfall in Abbottabad has also closed Murree Road. Rain in the plains and snowfall in the upper areas continued for the second day as in Shangla.
Police and locals were trying to ease the flow of traffic by assisting vehicles on Shangla Top and Rakhine. The TV channel reported that the cold weather has affected the demand for roadside food stalls and the sale of warm clothes. Intermittent rains continued for the second day in different areas including Mingora, Swat while snow fell in Kalam, Malam Jabba, Madina, Bahrain, Jibral and Asho. The meteorological department said the mercury dipped to -7 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius.
