Significant rains predicted in Pakistan from April 10

ISLAMABAD – Intermittent rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely in parts of Pakistan from April 10 to April 15.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave will likely enter upper parts of Pakistan on April 10. It will be followed by another strong westerly wave on April 12 that may grip most parts of the country on April 13 and persist till April 15.

Under the influence of this weather system, countrywide intermittent rains are expected from April 10 to April 15.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner and Malakand from April 10 to April 15 with occasional gap. Intermittent rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely in Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan and Kurram April 12 to April 15. Isolated heavy falls and hailstorms are also expected from April 13 to April 15.

Gilgit-Baltistan/Kashmir: Rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over high mountains are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) with occasional gaps from April 10 to April 15. Isolated heavy falls and hailstorms are also expected from April 13 to April 15.

Punjab/Islamabad: Rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Murree, Galyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock and Chakwal from on April 10 and then from April 12 to April 15 with occasional gaps. Rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Khanpur, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar from April 12 to April 15 with occasional gaps. Isolated windstorm/hailstorm is also expected from April 13 to April 15.

Balochistan: Rain-wind/thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are expected in Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Sibbi, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Kalat, Lasbella, Khuzdar, Chagi, Panjgur, Gawadar and Kech from April 12 to April 14.

Sindh: Rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Qambar Shahdad Kot, Jamshoro and Sanghar on April 13 and April 14. Isolated rain-wind/thunderstorms are also expected in Karachi, Hyderabad during the period.

Possible Impacts and advises:

Heavy rainfall may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Manshera, tributaries of Kabul River, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from April 13 to April 15.

Landslides may affect vulnerable areas of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galyat, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan from April 13 to April 15. Windstorm/hailstorm and lightning may damage standing crops, loose structures like electric poles, vehicles and solar panels during the period.

Farmers especially in wheat growing areas are advised to manage their crops according to weather conditions. Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary traveling during the wet spell. Temperatures are likely to drop during the wet spell.
