PPP MPA Ms Sharmila Farooqui said on Sunday that the Independence Day is an occasion to celebrate and re-dedicate ourselves to the principles for which our nation was founded. In a statement, she said a new era of hope and optimism has dawned in the country on the occasion of this Independence Day, adding the country needs national unity and political coordination to resolve public issues.

She said,”On this 14 August, it gives me great pleasure to wish you all a very happy 75th anniversary of our independence. On this auspicious occasion, we honour the extraordinary efforts of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and his companions that led to the creation of our independent homeland Pakistan.” “I extend my heartiest felicitations to all the countrymen and offer my gratitude to Allah for giving us a beautiful country like Pakistan. Today, I also felicitate those Pakistanis who are settled abroad but their hearts throng with Pakistan and deem the green flag as a symbol of honour and dearer than their lives.”

Sharmila said we need to initiate the process of correction individually, then from homes and communities to derive more benefits and ensure the democratic values take root at the state, governmental and administrative levels to pave the way for a meaningful change. She said leaders like Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who lived and died to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of the people carried the torch of democracy for this great nation through its darkest hours. The restoration of democracy was the first step on Pakistan’s road to recovery, however, a lot more still needs to be done. All our collectives efforts should go towards serving the people. Full force of nations economy should be dedicated to eradicating poverty and unemployment, she added.Let us on this occasion resolve to squarely face the enemies of democracy and not let them derail the democratic institutions of the state.

Sharmila said, “Let us resolve to collectively protect and defend democracy and to make Pakistan a truly modern, dynamic and progressive country in which there will be no place for militancy.
