The Lady Health Workers Union and other civil society organizations have demanded that service structure be provided to more than one lakh lady health workers across the country, including 25,000 lady health workers of Sindh. HabibuddinJunaidi, Central President of the People’s Labour Bureau, Mehnaz Rehman, director of the Women’s Foundation. KUJ General Secretary AajizJamali and others addressed a joint press conferenceat Karachi Press Club on Tuesday. “The Supreme Court has given us full powers but the governments do not recognize it,” he said. He said that just as the Supreme Court has declared us as the foundation of the health department, it has declared us as part of the health department. The Sindh government has also regularized lady health workers but we have not been given any service structure for women retiring. They are not getting any financial assistance even though this project was started by Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in 1994 for the betterment of women. We have been beaten in jails for many years. The media and the Supreme Court have helped us a lot. We have got all the rights. We have got the right to register a union. On this occasion, Karamat Ali and Habib-ud-Din Junaidi and others said that we stand by the side of lady health workers in their entire struggle and we will persuade the Health Department to solve their problems.
