Security plan finalized for public safety

Rawalpindi District Police here on Thursday finalized foolproof security arrangements for the ChorChowk procession of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) to be taken out on 28 Safar-ul-Muzaffar. According to a police spokesman, the police on the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Hamdani finalized foolproof security arrangements for the procession.

He informed that the CPO had directed the police officers to ensure foolproof security arrangements for the procession and utilize all available resources to provide tight security cover to the mourners.

More than 14,00 police personnel would be deployed for the security of the procession while 176 Traffic Wardens and City Traffic officers would also be on duty to regulate traffic on city roads, he added.

The police spokesman said tight security would be provided to the procession, and walk-through gates would be installed at the entry points of the procession, he said adding, the participants would be allowed to join the main procession after a full body search. According to CPO, under the security arrangements, no one would be allowed to stand on the rooftops of commercial and residential buildings situated along the procession route. Snipers would also be deployed for the security of the main procession, he said.

The CPO informed that searching and sweeping of the main procession route would be carried out and streets, roads, diversion points and other routes along the main procession route would be sealed. All available resources are being utilized to ensure foolproof security for ChorChowkChehlum procession, the CPO added. According to a CTP spokesman, the Traffic Police, on the directives of Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Tamoor Khan, had finalised all the arrangements to regulate traffic and facilitate the road users on September 15 in ChorChowk area.

He informed that a comprehensive traffic plan had been devised to ensure security and facilitate the mourners as well as the road users.

Chairing Cross to PirwadhaiMor Road would remain closed from morning to conclusion of the ‘Chehlum’ procession. Diversion points would be set up in the circle to ensure security and facilitate the motorists. Saddar to Peshawar bound traffic would move through Westridge Road, Atta ulHaq Road, NajamShaheed Road, Westridge-III Road, APS School, Marble Factory and IJP Road, while the traffic coming from Wah, Taxila towards Saddar would use Pirwadhai Road, IJP Road, Carriage Factory Road, GunjmandiMor, BakriChowk, Romi Road, Transit Camp and AkramulHaq Road.
