Schools holiday announced across Sindh on August 26 for Chehlum of Imam Hussain

KARACHI – The government of Sindh announced holiday for all public and private schools on August 26 to mark the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain R.A.

As per the announcement, all public and private schools will remain closed in Karachi and Sindh on Monday, August 26, in observance of the Chehlum of Imam Hussain (R.A).

The decision was made by the steering committee of the provincial education department, according to the official notification.

The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) will be observed with religious devotion and under tight security measures across the province.

This day marks the conclusion of a 40-day period of mourning following the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his 72 companions in the Battle of Karbala, which took place on the 10th of Muharram in 680 AD.

Various cities across the province will witness mourning processions that include Alam, Tazia, and Zuljinah.

August 26 Holiday in Schools

Lahore district will also observe local holiday on Monday, August 26, for the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh.

With the Punjab School Education Department’s existing two-day weekend policy, students will enjoy an extended break, resulting in three consecutive holidays from August 24 to 26.
