The Consul General of Turkey, Cemal Sangu has called for the establishment of a joint Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism between Turkiye and Pakistan. During his visit to Musaliha International Center for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (MICADR), Sangu expressed his admiration for the center’s accomplishments and offered to facilitate connections with prominent Turkish chambers of commerce and business counterparts in Pakistan.
He also suggested organizing a seminar to promote investment opportunities between the two nations. Sangu highlighted Turkey’s strong private sector involvement in resolving disputes through mediation and arbitration, noting that over five million cases have been successfully settled through this process.
He proposed working closely with MICADR to introduce its services to Turkish companies operating in Pakistan, aiming to foster security and cooperation for business ventures. Justice (R) Arif Hussain Khilji, the Founder and Managing Director of MICADR, welcomed Sangu’s proposal and provided an overview of MICADR’s mission, which was founded by Justice (R) Nasir Aslam Zahid under the Legal Aid Society.
The center, which boasts a diverse Board of Governors, including retired Supreme Court Justices and representatives from the private sector and academia, has drawn inspiration from Turkey’s ADR model. MICADR seeks to strengthen ties with Turkish counterparts and continue its work in resolving disputes efficiently and fairly.
Majyd Aziz, founding member of MICADR, shared his enthusiasm for promoting mediation and arbitration in Pakistan, particularly among private sector chambers and associations.
Sarha Rasheed, Co-Founder and Senior Manager, presented a detailed overview of MICADR’s activities, emphasizing its impact over the past two years in offering cost-effective and impartial dispute resolution services to both local and foreign investors, as well as corporate bodies and regulatory authorities.
MICADR is committed to providing high-quality services through over 100 accredited mediators across Pakistan, ensuring access to efficient dispute resolution. The center adheres to the principles of impartiality, neutrality, and confidentiality while also conducting research and supporting ADR policymaking for government and judicial bodies.
