Sad demise of SM Muneer

SHAIKH Muhammad Muneer, popularly known as SM Muneer, a leading and versatile business personality, is no more with us and the vacuum created by his death would remain there for a long time to come.

He was a consummate industrialist with experience in sectors ranging from tanneries, textiles and banking and rose to prominence because of his principled-based business politics, solid contribution to the economic development of the country and in highlighting the cause of his community.

The hard work and perseverance that SM Muneer demonstrated during fifty years of his active professional life made him a role model in the industrial and trading community.

He was a renowned industrialist, Chairman Deen Group of Companies, patron-in-chief of Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI), vice-chair at MCB Bank Ltd, a former President of Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and member of Board of Directors of a number of institutions.

In 2014, he was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the official Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) because of his immense experience in the realm of industry and exports.

He was awarded with the Best Export Performance trophy by the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), the Gold Medallion Award from the International Export Association, UK and Best Businessman of the Year Award from FPCCI.

In addition, he received the ‘Sitara-e-Isaar’ and the ‘Sitara-e-Imtiaz’ in 2006 and 2007 respectively by the President of Pakistan in recognition of his outstanding public service for the cause of humanity.

SM Muneer was also an enthusiastic philanthropist, who not only contributed his share during national tragedies but also patronized a number of social welfare organizations.

He will long be remembered for his services as a successful industrialist, exporter and a caring human being.
