LAHORE – Confusion has marred the Punjab government’s relief package for electricity consumers as Rs14 per unit subsidy has not been provided to three phase meter holders in bills for the month of August 2024.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had announced the massive relief for citizens of Punjab and Islamabad in electricity bills for August and September 2024 amid higher power tariff. Citizens, who consume below 500 units, will receive Rs14 subsidy in bills for two months.

In latest development, Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) sources told a media outlet that relief had only been provided to the consumers who hold single phase meters.

They said the relevant ministry had not directed Lesco to provide relief to the owners of the three-phase electricity meters, adding that the no subsidy had been given to them in electricity bills for August 2024.

They said the owners of the three-phase meters have been visiting the Lesco offices for relief since receiving the bills. They said the company could not provide them subsidy unless it receives directives from the ministry.

Update for Single Phase Electricity Meter Owners

It appears that the owners of the single phase electricity meters will only get relief of Rs14 per unit in bills for September 2024 if they consume below 500 units.

Update for Three Phase Electricity Meter Holders

The owners of the three-phase meters will not be able to get the Rs14 per unit subsidy in September bills if no directives are issued by the ministry in this regard.

Earlier this month, the Punjab government withdrew the subsidy of Rs14 per unit on electricity for consumers in Islamabad only due to an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
