Sindh Information and Labour Minister, Saeed Ghani, said that the recruitment of 50,000 schoolteachers at a time in the province on meritorious grounds proves the commitment of Sindh government and the top leadership of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party to the cause of education.

The Sindh Information and Labour Minister stated this on Monday while addressing a ceremony held at the NED University of Engineering and Technology to hand over appointment letters to 288 newly recruited primary and secondary school teachers belonging to Jamshed Town in the city. These newly recruited teachers passed the recruitment test conducted by the IBA, Sukkur.

Saeed Ghani said on the occasion that for the first time in the history of the country 50,000 schoolteachers had been recruited at a time on a meritorious basis.  He said the majority number of schoolteachers inducted by the provincial government since 2008 had been recruited on the meritorious grounds.

He informed the audience that the top leadership of the ruling PPP especially its Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had given clear-cut instructions that the process of recruiting the schoolteachers in the province should remain free of all undue interference as the recruitment drive should be completed on a meritorious basis.

He said the full backing of the PPP’s leadership enabled the Sindh government’s Education Department to complete the historic recruitment drive.  He said the simultaneous recruitment of 50,000 schoolteachers was a big challenge for the provincial government as the Sindh Education Minister, Syed Sardar Ali Shah, incumbent and past secretaries of the School Education Department had worked hard to complete the task. Ghani said that he had also remained associated with the recruitment drive in the past during his tenure as the Sindh Education Minister.

He said that all the newly recruited schoolteachers had passed the recruitment test conducted by the IBA, Sukkur.  While acknowledging that problems did exist in the public education sector, the Sindh Information Minister said the state and government were under an obligation to sort out these issues.  He said the government was bound to fulfill the responsibility of providing quality school education to children free of charge. He, however, said the standard of the government-run schools should be improved so that concerned parents sent their children to these educational institutions without any fear.

Ghani said the availability of qualified teachers at the government-run schools was compulsory for achieving the target of educating every child in the country.   He urged the newly recruited teachers to perform their academic duties with full commitment, dedication, and honesty for playing their due role in the development and progress of Sindh and rest of the country.
