ISLAMABAD – Life in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi remains paralyzed and now residents of both cities are facing petrol shortages amid shutdown.

The capital city Islamabad remains under lock down as the federal government took stern measures to block protesters of PTI. Imran Khan called for a rally demanding his release and protesting changes to the judiciary and constitution.

Amid the complete shutdown, petrol supply is at risk of running out of fuel, while oil dealers warned due to disruptions in supply chains caused by the ongoing PTI protest.

As the situation remains dire, oil dealers raised alarms that unless fuel supplies are restored promptly, the remaining stocks could be ended shortly. The Petroleum Division took note of looming shortage and issued a directive to ensure uninterrupted petrol supply.

Travel restrictions in Lahore and other regions are impacted by supply chain. Prices of several edibles also saw big jump on Monday.

PTI Protest

Supporters of Imran Khan’s party are on way to Islamabad for “final rally” demanding his release and protesting changes to the constitution.

PML-N-led coalition government, on the other hand, shut down roads, blocked the internet, and deployed thousands of police and Rangers. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) accused ruling government of orchestrating his imprisonment for political reasons.

Despite heavy government restrictions, tens of thousands of PTI supporters began marching towards capital. Authorities used teargas and arrests to suppress the protests, and PTI members responded with stone-throwing and clashes.

Khan’s wife, Bishra Bibi, and KP Chief Minister Imran Khan and other PTI leaders are leading march, as authorities vowed to arrest any protesters attempting to enter Islamabad, particularly with the timing coinciding with a foreign state visit.
