Rain likely in Peshawar, parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this week

PESHAWAR – Rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from April 10 to April 15 with occasional gaps.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave will likely enter upper parts of Pakistan on April 10. It will be followed by another strong westerly wave on April 12 that may grip most parts of the country on April 13 and persist till April 15.

Under the influence of this weather system, rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner and Malakand from April 10 to April 15 with occasional gap. Intermittent rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely in Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan and Kurram from April 12 to April 15. Isolated heavy falls and hailstorms are also expected from April 13 to April 15.

Possible Impacts and advises:

Heavy rainfall may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Manshera and tributaries of Kabul River from April 13 to April 15. Landslides may affect vulnerable areas of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from April 13 to April 15. Windstorm/hailstorm and lightning may damage standing crops, loose structures like electric poles and solar panels during the period. Farmers are advised to manage their crops according to weather conditions. Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary traveling during the wet spell. Temperatures are likely to drop during the wet spell.
