Railways most corrupt institution of Pakistan: CJP

ISLAMABAD The Supreme Court on Monday summoned Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed in a deficit case and said that “nothing in the institution is functioning properly” Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed presided the three-member bench hearing the case related to the railway audit report.
Expressing annoyance at the performance of the
strategic institution, the court remarked that “a person should first travel by train before taking over the ministry”.
The bench further added that the railways was the most corrupt institution of Pakistan.
“The records are not computerised,” SC remarked. “The stations and railway tracks are not in order. Every passenger travelling by train is in danger. The freight trains are also not operating.”
CJP Gulzar also criticised the minister and said that he should do a better job of handling the ministry.
“The whole institution is politicised,” CJP added.
The counsel representing the railways ministry claimed that the matter had been investigated and action has been taken against two officials.The apex court, adjourning the hearing till Tuesday, summoned the secretary railways in the next hearing
