Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah wanted to keep Pakistanis united as a single nation and that is why he had declared Urdu as the national language of the country.
Speakers, historians and scholars of the Pakistan Studies expressed these views while addressing a seminar titled ‘Urdu Aur Quaid-e-Azam’ organized by the National Language Promotion Department in connection with the Youm-e-Quaid-e-Azam being celebrated on Dec 25 (today).
The event was presided over by eminent scholar and researcher on Quaid-e-Azam Dr. Riaz Ahmad.
Dr Riaz Ahmad said that Quaid-e-Azam had said that Urdu would become the Official Language of Pakistan and we shall defend it.
Dr. Rauf Parekh said that Quaid-e-Azam felt that a National Language was necessary for the unity and solidarity of Pakistan.
Prof. Dr. Ghazi llm-ud-din was of the opinion that in view of the Urdu Hindi controversy scenario at the time of the establishment of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam was aware of the fact that Urdu was not only the name of a language but also a symbolic repre-sentation.
