Punjab remained terrorism free in 2020, said a CTD report.
Punjab remained terrorism free in 2020 as no incident of suicide bombing or sectarianism took place in the entire province this year.
According to a report of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Punjab Police, 24 terror plots were foiled and 50 terrorists of banned outfits like Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, al Qaeda and Daesh were arrested in the province in 2020. The report says that 2020 saw a 10 percent decrease in incidents of terrorism compared to 2014. The report says that 2020 is the first year in 13 years that saw not even a single suicide bombing in Punjab. The report says that a suicide bomber was shot dead before he could blew himself up on November 24. According to the CTD report 2020, the counterterrorism force conducted 1,173 operations in different parts of the province, arrested 1,055 terror suspects and got terrorism cases registered against 157 suspected terrorists. Three suspected terrorists linked to four bomb attacks in Rawalpindi were arrested this year. Also, the force arrested 65 financiers of terrorists and seized hundreds of thousands of rupees from them.
