According to the spokesperson of Punjab Agriculture Department, after cotton, maize and sugarcane, the first water should be applied to the sown wheat after 20 to 25 days sowing and wheat sown after paddy, the first water should be applied after 35 to 45 days.

Apply remaining Nitrogen after first and second water in equal installments; while in sandy soils apply Nitrogen fertilizer after first irrigation. After irrigation, run Bar Harrow twice times even if crop is sown with broadcasting method.

It helps in control of weeds. Remember, weeds grow very fast in wheat crop and their growth can reduce the yield up to 42%. Use chemical poisons/ weedicides for weed control as per recommendations of Punjab Agriculture Department.

Use special nozzle (T-jet or flat fan nozzle) for standard spray and keep water content at 100 to 120 liters per acre. Avoid using bar harrow after using weedicides.

Use weedicides in sandy, loamy and rainfed areas on the advice of the Agriculture Department. Use weedicides mixed with urea fertilizer or sand in paddy areas. Farmers should not spray in strong wind, rain or fog and preferably spray in the sun keeping in view advice of Metrological Department.
