LAHORE – The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province, citing terrorism threat.
The police contingents have been deployed in different areas. The decision has been made at the moment when the PTI and Jamat-Islami have given protest call.
On the other hand, the containers have been placed to partially block the routes leading to Islamabad from the Red Zone and Rawalpindi in response to Jamaat-e-Islami’s sit-in and PTI’s protest call.
At Faizabad, the route to Rawalpindi has been blocked with containers, and containers have also been placed at Chandni Chowk and Sixth Road on Murree Road.
A spokesperson for Jamaat-e-Islami stated that the sit-in against high electricity bills and inflation will definitely take place, and convoys are heading towards Islamabad.
Jamaat-e-Islami leaders Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman and Liaqat Baloch are present in Islamabad, and two employees were taken into custody during a raid on Liaqat Baloch’s house.
Jamaat-e-Islami has claimed that multiple workers have been detained from Lahore, Gujrat, Vehari, Sargodha, Hafizabad, and Faisalabad.
On the other hand, PTI announced a protest against inflation and to demand the release of detained workers and the party founder.
Besides it, the administration has stated that the Metrobus service in Islamabad has been suspended due to the protests. The Metro Bus service is suspended from IJP to Pak Secretariat.
According to the administration, the Metro Bus service in Rawalpindi is operational, running from Faizabad to Saddar.
