Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership has expressed willingness to hold negotiations with the government to ease political tensions.
After meeting founding chairman Imran Khan at Adiyala jail on Sunday evening, PTI leaders said that they were ready for the third round of talks with the committee comprising the PML-N and its coalition partners.
Speaking at a press conference, Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) head Sahibzada Hamid Raza demanded forming an impartial judicial commission headed by a senior Supreme Court judge to probe May 9, 2023, and November 26, 2024 events.
Flanked by Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan and former NA Speaker Asad Qaiser, he urged the government to make progress on their demands during the upcoming talks.
Hamid Raza said that no progress has so far been made in the talks. He urged the negotiation team to work on forming a judicial commission before the third round of negotiations.
He said that the formation of a judicial commission and the release of political prisoners were two major demands. He said that the PTI negotiation team would submit their demands in writing to the government during the upcoming round of talks.
He warned that the dialogue would not continue if the judicial commission was not constituted. He made it clear that the PTI would not extend the deadline for talks beyond January 31.
Referring to the meeting with PTI’s founding chairman in jail, he said it was held in a controlled environment. He said that the PTI was conveyed about the meeting late at night on Saturday. He said that PTI leaders Hamid Khan and Salman Akram Raja could not reach Adiyala Jail on time due to foggy weather.
He said that the £190 million corruption case verdict could create bitterness. However, he said that Imran Khan had directed them to ensure the ruling did not disrupt the ongoing negotiation process.
