ISLAMABAD – Chaos erupted in Pakistan’s capital city Islamabad, home to over 1 million people, as tens of thousands of supporters of ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan marched into metropolis, clashing with security forces.

As the capital remains under tight lockdown, the federal government responded with security lockdown, internet blackouts, and roadblocks to prevent protesters from entering the city. The protesters led by Imran Khan’s wife and other PTI leaders are at D-Chowk – a key region near Jinnah Avenue and Constitution Avenue in the city.

‘No Talks with PTI rioters’

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi turned down possibility of negotiations with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters who are planning a sit-in at Islamabad’s D-Chowk. Addressing a press conference alongside Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Naqvi confirmed that the government would take a firm stance in dealing with the ongoing unrest, emphasizing that no talks would take place under any conditions.

Naqvi did not explicitly name Bushra Bibi, the wife of the jailed former Prime Minister, but suggested that “a woman” was behind the current wave of protests. This remark fueled speculation that Bushra Bibi, a central figure in PTI’s political strategy, might be playing a role in coordinating the demonstrations.
