PTI picks women candidates for Reserved Seats in Punjab Assembly

LAHORE – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has prepared list to finalise the names for reserved seats for women in Punjab Assembly.

Names under consideration for the reserved seats include Dr Yasmin Rashid, Sanam Javaid, Tayyaba Ambreen, Naheed Naiz, Abida Raja, Saira Raza, Azra Naseem, Qurban Fatima and Farah Agha

The list also includes Farah Agha, Firdous Rahna, Sadia Ayub, Ayesha Bhutta, Neelam Iftikhar Rao, Sara Ali Syed, Tanzeela Imran, Rukhsana Raza Bano, Ruqia Bibi, Safia Javaid, Aminah Badar, Bushra Saeed, Amira Azhar, Aqsa Asim, Shehla Mumtaz Niazi, Maimona Kamal, and Shireen Nawaz Khan.

The tentative list also mentioend Syeda Fatima Haider, Tehmina Riaz, Nelofer Ahmad Malik, Maryam kulsoom, Bilal Warriach’s wife, Adeeba Nazar, Saima Noreen, Syeda Hina, Parveen Zaman and Shahmeen Shahid.

The development comes after Supreme Court ruled that Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf is eligible for reserved seats, delivering a significant blow to ruling alliance.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah announced 8-5 majority decision, overturning the Peshawar High Court’s ruling, which had supported the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to deny the reserved seats to the SIC. Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, along with Justices Jamal Mandokhail, Naeem Afghan, Yahya Afridi, and Ameenuddin Khan, dissented from the majority opinion.

Earlier in the day, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) stated that it would implement the Supreme Court’s decision, declaring PTI eligible for the reserved seats. The ECP spokesperson mentioned that instructions have been given to their legal team to ensure the Supreme Court’s ruling is carried out.
