According to details, a high level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Minster Local Govt. & Chairman KW&SB Syed Nasir Hussain Shah regarding important 65 MGD project of Water Board, Secretary Local Govt. Syed Najam Shah, Project Director 65 MGD Zafar Palijo, Project Manager Akram Baloch & other concerned senior officials were present on the occasion, Briefing the Minster Local Govt. about the project, P.D-65 MGD on the occasion of the meeting said that Karachi water quota from Indus River is allocated 650 MGD, Out of which 500 MGD water is being taken by Water Board, 20 MGD Port Qasim and Steel Mill, while 130 MGD water quota is still remaining, Due to which 65 MGD project has been started.
He said that there are 3 packages of the 65 MGD project, in package one, gravity water will be brought from R.D 88 to Gharo pumping station, the work of which has been given to N.L.C, but 30 percent of the work has been completed.
To award the tender of package two, Package III will bring water from Gharo pumping station to High Point, in which 11 km 72 inch Dia MS line will be laid out of which 2 km line has been laid and main railway line has also been crossed, The work of which has been given to Haji Sirajuddin Soomro.
He further said that for the completion of this project, the Sindh government has sanctioned Rs. 9146 million in Rowes PC-1, While 1150 million has been set aside in this year’s budget.
On this occasion, the contractor company of the project requested the Minister Local Govt. & said that the cost of the project has increased by 100% due to inflation and it should be reviewed.
On which the Minister Local Govt. said that funds would be released keeping in view the rules otherwise the tender would be canceled.
On the occasion, the Minster Local Govt. said that the 65 MGD project should be completed immediately as providing water supply & drainage facilities to the citizens is one of our top priorities, He further said that Sindh government would release all funds for the completion of all water projects.
