ISLAMABAD – President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday signed the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Amendment Ordinance 2024, promulgating new rules for the apex court.

With the promulgation of the ordinance, two new sections – 7A and 7B – have been inserted into the SC Practice and Procedure 2023.

The Section 7A states, “Unless a transparent criteria is already mentioned or the applicable law requires a decision within the stipulated time, every cause, matter or appeal in the Supreme Court shall be heard at its turn based on first in, first out, that is to say, the cases filed first shall be heard first. Any Bench hearing a case out of its turn shall record its reasons for doing so”.

The section 7B states, “Recording and transcript of proceedings, hearing of every cause, matter or appear in Supreme Court shall be recorded an transcript thereof duly prepared. Such recordings and transcripts shall be made available to the public”.

Earlier in the day, the federal cabinet approved the ordinance through circulation summary sent by the Ministry of Law and Justice.
