The Virtual University of Pakistan celebrated the 1st phase of its 13th Convocation at Jinnah Convention Center Islamabad, with Dr. Arif Alvi, the President of Pakistan and Chancellor of Virtual University, as the chief guest and Secretary of the Ministry Of IT & Telecom Hassan Nasir Jamy as the special guest.
President Dr. Arif Alvi addressed the gathering, emphasizing the urgent need for educational improvement in Pakistan. He stated, “We are far behind our neighboring countries in education, and we need to enhance our setup. There are millions of out-of-school children who require specific attention from the government.” Dr. Alvi, a longstanding advocate of Virtual University, expressed his deep affection for the institution and its mode of education, declaring, “From the time I hold office, I have always acted as an advocate of Virtual University. I love Virtual University and its mode of education. All Universities should follow the model of Virtual University.”
While commending the efforts of Virtual University’s efforts ,Dr. Alvi said that when he became the president; total annual enrollment in the virtual university was 28,000 which had increased to 55000 this year which was quite encouraging. He pointed out that the university was running totally on its own resources and it was not seeking any financial support from the government.
