Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Sindh has announced province-wide rallies in support of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, celebrating its recent approval. These rallies will be held on Monday, October 28, in all divisional headquarters across Sindh. PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro made this announcement, stating that party leaders and supporters will gather in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, and Larkana to show their support and joy.

Khuhro hailed the amendment’s approval as a victory for democracy and democratic forces, while describing it as a setback for undemocratic ideologies. He praised Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his leadership, stating that Bilawal has proven to be a major democratic figure and that “the time for Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to become Prime Minister is approaching.”

Khuhro emphasized that the approval strengthens Parliament’s role, particularly in judicial appointments, which he believes will reduce judicial activism. The establishment of a constitutional bench, according to Khuhro, will ease the Supreme Court’s workload, while the creation of similar benches at the provincial level will address local constitutional issues.

Reflecting on the past, he criticized the judiciary for protecting martial law regimes, stating that “the judiciary once safeguarded martial law and punished those who drafted the constitution while granting privileges to those who broke it.”

Khuhro emphasized the importance of balance in power distribution and a limitation on judicial activism. He further applauded Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for implementing another point of the Charter of Democracy through the amendment, fulfilling the mission of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

He called for the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, asserting that Pakistan can only progress under a democratic system. Khuhro also took aim at a certain leader with undemocratic views, advising him to distance himself from conspiracies and play a constructive role as part of a democratic opposition.
