In light of the alarming trend of juvenile involvement in social evils due to parental and societal neglect, Inspector General (IG) Sindh, Riffat Mukhtar Raja, emphasized the proactive measures undertaken by the Sindh Police in collaboration with federal and provincial authorities to safeguard the rights of women and children.
This includes the establishment of a dedicated desk at every police station across the province, specifically for the registration of complaints related to women’s rights, as well as ensuring concrete actions are taken to address them. During a meeting with Senator Dr. Aisha Raza Farooq, Chairperson of the National Commission for Child Rights, in Karachi, concerns were raised regarding cases of sexual abuse and other issues against children.
The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Headquarters and the Additional Inspector General (AIG) Operations Sindh were also present at the occasion. Senator Dr. Aisha Raza Farooq shed light on the objectives and initiatives of the National Commission for Child Rights, emphasizing the importance of properly documenting cases of child sexual abuse, exploitation, and other related crimes, and ensuring the accurate organization of data. She stressed the need for a focal person within the Sindh Police to handle these matters effectively.
IGP acknowledged that the fundamental cause of children’s involvement in crimes lies in parental and societal upbringing. He expressed concern that while adapting to the demands of the modern era, there is a growing neglect of basic responsibilities, resulting in a deterioration of the upbringing of the new generation.
He highlighted the ongoing collaboration between Sindh Police and government and non-governmental organizations, including the mobile application “Zainab Alert,” aimed at addressing issues such as child abduction and abuse.
He assured continued cooperation with relevant authorities to combat child sexual abuse and other related issues effectively.
