Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday announced its reserved verdict, taking back PTI’s iconic electoral symbol ‘bat’ for upcoming elections.
In its verdict, Justice Ejaz Khan of Peshawar High Court revoked the stay order, restoring the polls body decision to declare PTI intra-party polls null and void.
The counsel of ECP, and the PTI legal team appeared in the courtroom, as the electoral watchdog approached court against its December 26 decision which suspended the commission order.
ECP declared PTI’s intra-party polls illegal, restricting the former ruling from using bat symbol. It accused Khan’s PTI for violating regulations and declared them null and void.
In Dec 2023, Election Commission of Pakistan ordered the beleaguered PTI to hold intra-party elections within 20 days or risk losing its electoral symbol. PTI then held election in early December, and picked Barrister Gohar Khan as new chairman. All PTI’s office holders had been elected unopposed in the election.
