The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information & Broadcasting has urged PEMRA to immediately direct all media channels to stop telecasting the sentences like “Mera Jism Meri Marzi” to prevent nation from moral delinquency.
The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information & Broadcasting held a meeting in Islamabad on Thursday with its Chairman, Mian Javed Latif in chair. The Committee strongly protested over the non issuance of Production Order of Khawaja Saad Rafique, MNA/Member of the Committee.
The Committee deemed it a clear violation of Rules and directed that concern authorities may ensure proper implementation of Rule 108 of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly as it was a prerogative of the every member to participate in the proceedings of the National Assembly. As a protest, the Chairman decided not to attend the meeting of the said Standing Committee scheduled for next day.
The Committee strongly protested over the improper check & balance of PEMRA on private media channels as obscenity & vulgarity could not be stopped in private media channels especially in live talk shows despite repeated directions of the Committee. The Committee therefore, directed that PEMRA may immediately direct to all media channels to stop telecasting the sentences like “Mera Jism Meri Marzi” to prevent our nation from moral delinquency.
The Committee decided to hold a meeting on 9th March, 2020 to discuss the said issue with private media owners. The meeting was attended by Engr. Usman Khan Tarakai, MNA, Mr. Nasir Khan Musazai, MNA, Mr. Tahir Iqbal, MNA, Mr. Muhammad Akram, MNA, Mr. Aftab Jahangir, MNA, Mr. Nadeem Abbas, MNA, Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Behan, MNA, Ms. Javeria Zafar Aheer.—INP
