The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) convened its 43rd E-Kachehri, chaired by Additional Director General CAA, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Taimoor Iqbal, to discuss various aviation matters. The session commenced with a review of previous complaints, emphasizing passengers’ rights regarding flight cancellations.
The Additional Director General stressed the need for airlines to provide detailed explanations for cancellations or delays, beyond generic reasons like ‘technical issues’.
The Director of Air Transport mentioned the preparation of a document to ensure airlines’ accountability in such cases. Regarding PIA flights to the UK, hopes for an update in May were expressed following the conclusion of inspections.
Complaints against Serene Air and PIA were acknowledged, with assurances of follow-up actions. The issue of FIA staffing at immigration counters was also addressed, with plans for further discussion and resolution.
In response to queries about drones, a comprehensive policy document is in preparation, covering various aspects and to be available on the PCAA website. Clarifications were provided regarding procedures for accountability in investigations, including the PK 8303 crash report. Regarding infrastructure concerns, instructions were issued to improve signage at Quetta International Airport and ensure adequate provision of luggage trolleys at airports.
The lack of flight operations from Dera Ghazi Khan to Dubai was attributed to economic viability issues. The session concluded with gratitude to participants for their input, reaffirming the aim of addressing passenger complaints and enhancing their overall experience.
