WHILE most of our public sector organisations are known for running into losses owing to maladministration and malpractices, there is one institution that appears to be heading for right direction. This has also been recognised at global level, as according to a report issued by Universal Postal Unit, the global organisation of postal services, Pakistan Post has moved up 27 places from 94th to 67th.
This ranking is about best service with confidence, reach, hard work and dedication. The Universal Postal Service has also commended door-to-door delivery of pensions by Pakistan Post amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. This improvement in ranking is a great distinction not only for this national organisation but the whole country. This speaks volume of good work being done in Pakistan Post especially over the last few years under Minister for Communications Murad Saeed. At present, the process of reforms is continuing in the organisation with a project being executed to digitalise its whole operations. This project also envisages provision of latest gadgets including IPads to its employees. We are confident that with the implementation of this project, the ranking of Pakistan Post will rise further in years to come which will help it further boost its business and gain public confidence.
By using latest technology, the organisation can significantly enhance its services and performance much to the satisfaction of its customers. Pakistan Post has a large network of offices across the country and its reach to far-flung and rural areas gives it an edge over private sector. What it needs is to gain confidence of the customers through further improvement in service delivery and introduction of new products. The network of Pakistan Post can also be used for financial inclusion of women and provision of loans to the youth of far flung areas under Kamyab Jawan Programme. The process of genuine reforms as promised by PTI in its election manifesto should also be expedited in other public sector enterprises as currently they are proving to be a burden on national kitty.
