VISIT of Chief of Staff of Sultan’s Armed Forces Lt General Ahmed Bin Harith Al Nabhani to Pakistan has paved the way for greater understanding and cooperation between Pakistan and the Sultanate of Oman. The dignitary held extensive talks with civil and military leadership of Pakistan where the two sides expressed their resolve to take the relationship to new heights.
The visit came at a time when the situation in the Gulf was rapidly changing and the Indian occupation forces have unleashed a reign of terror in Occupied Kashmir. Therefore, it afforded an opportunity to the two sides to exchange views on important regional developments besides matters pertaining to intensified defence and other ties between the two countries. Prime Minister Imran Khan apprised the Omani Chief of Staff on the grave human rights and humanitarian situation in the India-occupied Jammu and Kashmir including inhuman lockdown, curfew and communication blockade which had continued since 05 August and severely impacted the life of over 8 million Kashmiris. The Omani Chief of Staff expressed admiration for the Prime Minister’s speech at the UN General Assembly and lauded his initiative to de-escalate tensions in the Gulf and promote regional peace and security. He also noted the strong Oman-Pakistan bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction over the existing level of defence cooperation, including frequent exchange of visits, training exchange programs and joint exercises. Oman has been playing a very constructive role in defusing regional tension and contributed significantly in promoting reconciliation between the countries on different occasions. With this in view, through their close coordination, Pakistan and Oman can realize the objective of reducing tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran as any escalation is detrimental to the economic and security interests of Pakistan and Oman.
