An important meeting on tax collection was held under the chairmanship of Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Provincial Minister for Excise & Taxation and Narcotics Control Department & Parliamentary Affairs on Thursday.
The meeting was also attended by Secretary Excise & Taxation and Narcotics Control Department Ejaz Memon, Directors General Haji Saleem Bhutto, Munir Ahmed Zardari and other officers.
Briefing the meeting, it was informed that the total number of registered taxpayers under Sindh Excise Department is 9,015,833. The number of property tax payers is 939028, motor vehicle tax payer is 7,817,576 and professional tax payer is 227372.
The meeting was further informed that the number of payers of infrastructure cess is 31,149, number of tax payers of cotton fee is 286 and number of tax payers of entertainment duty is 59. While
The number of motor vehicle tax payers in Karachi is 5664735, 1030252 in Hyderabad and 637204 in Sukkur. The meeting was also informed that the number of motor vehicle tax payers in Mirpurkhas is 116674, 251147 in Larkana and 117564 in Shaheed Benazirabad region while the number of property tax payers is 698541 in Karachi region, 112509 in Hyderabad and in Sukkur the number is 35499 and the number of property tax payers in Mirpurkhas is 30978, 30037 in Larkana and 31464 in Shaheed Benazirabad region.
Addressing the meeting, Mukesh Kumar Chawla said that more units in the fields of property and professional tax should be brought under the tax net.
He said that businessmen should register their business to avoid any untoward situation.
Entrepreneurs can easily register their business on the department’s website www.excise.gos.pk. Mukesh Kumar Chawla also directed the officers to use their capabilities to expand the scope of taxation.
